Down the TBR Hole #12

Down the TBR Hole is a meme hosted by Lost in a Story that revolves around clearing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

I’m still at the beginning of my TBR so these are books I added when I was around 18 and oh my lord, my reading tastes have clearly changed a lot since then. I’m 26 now so 8 years definitely makes a huge difference!

Here’s how it works:

– Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
– Order on ascending date added.
– Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
– Read the synopses of the books
– Decide: keep it or should it go?

Vision in White by Nora Roberts
First of all, I’ve always wanted to read a Nora Roberts book. I’m curious to see why she’s such a well known author that has sold a bazillion books. And this one sounds pretty cute. Verdict: staying on the list

Another Piece of My Heart by Jane Green
The synopsis kind of makes the daughter sound like a psycho from a thriller novel. But this is supposed to be women’s fiction. Verdict: leaving the list

Rescue Me by Rachel Gibson
Oh I like the sound of this one! It seems like it’s going to start off as fake dating and that is one of my favourite tropes. Verdict: staying on the list

Sixteenth Summer by Michelle Dalton
Yes. Absolutely yes. This is one of those YA summer reads featuring a beach town and I am an absolute sucker for those. Sign me up. Verdict: staying on the list

Breathing by Cheryl Renee Herbsman
Nope. This is one big nope. Anything that sounds like “I met this boy and he cured all my issues” is a big no thank you in my books. Verdict: leaving the list

Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin
This has been one of my favourite movies for the longest time so this is absolutely staying on my TBR. I’ve owned it forever too. Have to get to it one day, right? Verdict: staying on the list

Love the One You’re With by Emily Giffin
Baby Proof by Emily Giffin
Heart of the Matter by Emily Giffin
Where We Belongby Emily Giffin
They all sound fine. I’m sure they’d be decent 3.5 star reads, but considering how many books are on my TBR, there are so many others that I would prefer to read over these books. They just seem very average to me. Verdict: leaving the list

9462795

Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini
Thanks but no thanks. The synopsis does abosolutely nothing for me. Verdict: leaving the list

11870085

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
I still refuse to watch the movie a second time to this day because I cried so much. But will I eventually read this even though it is 100% guaranteed to rip my heart out? Sure, why not. Verdict: staying on the list

6442769

Paper Towns by John Green
I’m sure I would have loved this as a young adult, but now there’s nothing about it that seems appealing to me. Verdict: leaving the list

Entwined by Heather Dixon Wallwork
This is one of those blurbs that don’t give away too much about the book. Normally, those intrigue me to want to read the book so I can know what the story is about, but in this case, not so much. Verdict: leaving the list

9491739

Clean by Amy Reed
A story about addicts in rehab who need to confront their demons? Yes please. Sign me and my fucked up brain up for all the dark novels. Verdict: staying on the list

138202

Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty
This sounds like the 90s teen book my soul needs. I mean it came out in 2001, but whatever. Details. If this was a movie, I can guarantee I would have loved it. Verdict: staying on the list

8517207

Bumped by Megan McCafferty
I’m sure if I would have picked this up when I first heard of this book I would have enjoyed it, but dystopian novels just really aren’t my thing anymore. Verdict: leaving the list

6068551

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
Listen, I don’t even need to read the synopsis to know that I will pick up anything Maggie Stiefvater writes based on The Raven Boys alone. Verdict: staying on the list

10626594

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
See above. Verdict: staying on the list

84979

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Yes, yes, I know. I should be ashamed I haven’t read this yet considering the 2005 version is one of my favourite movies ever and I own two copies of this book. Verdict: staying on the list

1953

A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
Another classic I have sitting around my apartment, but haven’t read yet. I swear one day I will, I’m just never in the classic mood. You guys totally get that, right? Verdict: staying on the list

13145

Along Came a Spider by James Patterson
I really wanted to read this when I was younger, but apparently he’s not that great of a writer and there’s like 20 books in the Alex Cross series. How can there be 20 books? There’s no way there’s that much to write about I’m sorry. Verdict: leaving the list

14935

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
Oh look, another classic I haven’t read. One day. Verdict: staying on the list

The Pact

The Pact by Jodi Picoult
I’ve been wanting to read this book for years, ever since she became incredibly popular when I was in high school. This was the one that stuck out the most to me from her books and one day I will get to it. Verdict: staying on the list

Handle with Care

Handle With Care by Jodi Picoult
This was one of the other books by Picoult that really stuck out to me and I hope to get to it in the new year. Verdict: staying on the list

Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy, #1)

Paranormalcy by Kiersten White
To be honest, I’m not entirely sure why this was on my TBR list to begin with. I don’t think this is something even teenage me would have been into. Verdict: leaving the list

Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1)

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
This was 100% added to my TBR during my Twlight days (ah, youth). However, 24 year old me isn’t feeling this so much. Verdict: leaving the list

Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1)

Bloodlines by Richelle Mead
Another vampire book from a phase that I am very much past. Verdict: leaving the list

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1)

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
Yes, I know. It’s insane that I haven’t read any of her books yet. Even though there’s like 800 of them between this one and all of her sub-series, I still want to get to this one day. We’ll see if that happens, but in the mean time I’ll keep it on my TBR. Verdict: staying on the list

Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1)

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare
See above. On the plus side, I’ve heard this series is her best. Verdict: staying on the list

A Visit from the Goon Squad

A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan
Nope. This one is going to go. Read the first part of the synopsis and it’s not for me. Verdict: leaving the list

Get Well Soon (Anna Bloom, #1)

Get Well Soon by Julie Halpern
I’m going to pass on this one as well. After reading a couple of reviews, it seems like the kind of book I could easily do without in my life. Verdict: leaving the list

Beautiful

Beautiful by Amy Reed
This sounds like something I might like, but not enough to want to keep it on my TBR. Verdict: leaving the list
