Hello lovelies! Can you believe 2019 is already over? I can’t, but honestly, thank the lord. This year was quite mediocre for me in terms of what I read. A few months ago I intended on making this list a top 10, but that didn’t end up going as planned. I just didn’t feel like I read enough amazing books, which is sad since I made it to 50, but oh well.

Putting a list of 5 books together was much easier and I can honestly say I freaking loved these to the moon and back and would suggest these to you all any day of the week.

1. Normal People by Sally Rooney
Good god. GOOD FREAKING LORD. This book hit me in the emotions so hard. And then it kept on hitting me repeatedly until I was curled up on the ground in fetal position. I’ve teared up reading books before (rarely, but it’s happened) but this book straight up had me sobbing. I remember having to take a break because I couldn’t keep reading through my tears. Not everyone is going to have this reaction, but some things going on in my personal life paired with the rawness of this story got me good.

2. Make Me Bad by R.S. Grey
This is by far my favourite R.S. Grey book. I know a lot of people might disagree with me, but that’s ok. To me this was her funniest book to date and I had to stop reading it in public because I would start laughing out loud in the middle of my trek to and from work. I’m too shy to be the girl giggling like an idiot in the middle of a packed bus. Also, Madison was me. I’m convinced R.S. Grey took residence in my brain when she wrote this. It was so nice to read a rom-com with a character who was so relatably awkward without being too much.

3. Flame in the Mist by Renée Ahdieh
I think it’s safe to say that Renée Ahdieh can do no wrong in my world. That was my third book by her and damn, woman. DAMN. She writes in the most beautiful way and always creates these vivid worlds and complex characters. And the romance. THE. FREAKING. ROMANCE. SHE. COMES. UP. WITH. I’m left in a puddle every time because it’s so perfect.

4. Woman on the Edge by Samantha M. Bailey
Please read this thriller. For the love of all that is good, please just read it. From start to finish I was on the edge of my seat needing to know how this baby came to be in Morgan’s arms. I don’t know what else to say without spoiling it (it’s so easy to slip up with a spoiler in a thriller) so just go buy it or borrow it from your nearest library and read it.

5. Her One Mistake by Heidi Perks
Another thriller you need to get your hands on. It’s told in dual perspective with “then” and “now” timelines and it’s just perfect. I remember getting to a huge part just as I was finishing my lunch at work (this is why you don’t read thrillers at the office…) and my mind was stuck on it the whole rest of my afternoon. Time has never gone by more slowly. It was fast-paced and kept me guessing. This was one of the first books I read this year, and I still instantly think of it now when I think of my favourite books of the year.
