Down the TBR Hole #1

Down The TBR Hole is a meme hosted by Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

Here’s how it works:

– Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
– Order on ascending date added.
– Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if youre feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
– Read the synopses of the books
– Decide: keep it or should it go?

When I first saw this meme, I knew I needed to do it. My Goodreads ‘to read’ shelf is absolutely out of control and this seems like the perfect way to be able to get the number down to a realistic one. To be fair though, I’ve had Goodreads since spring 2011, so almost 7 years. Clicking the ‘want to read’ button in abundance creates quite a long ‘to read’ list over that span of time. And my tastes have definitely changed since I was 17 so I think by the end of this, my shelf number should be much smaller.

Shopaholic and Sister by Sophie Kinsella

9417I read the first three Shopaholic books when I was around 16 years old and loved them. I remember starting this one and getting about 1/3 of the way through before stopping and deciding I’d get back to it at a later time because I wasn’t enjoying it. To be honest, I don’t think that day is going to come. Verdict: leaving the list

Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella

1358844I remember reading Can You keep A Secret? by Sophie Kinsella around the time I read the Shopaholic books and decided I needed to read the synopses of her other books to see if anything sounded as amazing as CYKAS did. This one really stuck out to me. Reading the synopsis now, I’m thinking I should grab a copy. Verdict: staying on the list

Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy

152This is a classic that I’ve always wanted to read. At around 1000 pages long, it seems quite daunting, but I’ve been reading more and more lately. Almost the way I did back in high school. So I think one day soon I’ll pick this up and be able to get through it in a decent amount of time. Verdict: staying on the list

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

7126In high school the advanced French class (I was in enriched French, aka the level just below) read this novel and I remember being so jealous because I’ve always wanted to read it. One day I will read it. I don’t know when, but I will. It sounds like it’s exactly the kind of book I’d love. Verdict: staying on the list

Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky

111287Another book I’ve kind of read. I think I got through most of it in high school, but for some reason never finished it. I’d really like to one day though. Verdict: staying on the list

Staying on the list: 4
Leaving the list: 1

Are there any books you guys think I should give a try? Let me know you think in the comments down below!
